Timbers move past Rapids and Galaxy into third

Portland beat Colorado tonight, 1-0, at home.

The result moves the Timbers into third place in the West, three points behind league-leading Seattle. It also drops Los Angeles -- the Sounders' Saturday opponent -- into the fifth and final playoff spot. Colorado slips to fourth in the West.

Colorado goes into the match four points behind the first place Sounders in the MLS standings. The Timbers hold the fifth and final playoff spot in the West, six points south of Seattle and three points ahead of sixth-place FC Dallas.
