Head Coach and General Manager of the Sounders U-23, Darren Sawatzky, conducted the clinic, taking the Blackhills boys through technical and tactical session. Sawatzky incorporated some of the same methods he utilizes for the Sounders U-23 in the summertime.

Head Coach for the Blackhills U-13s, Steve Seddon said, “The session went great! The players arrived at the field super excited to work with Darren Sawatzky.”

The training session was held at Ingersoll Stadium on the Olympia High School campus. The clinic lasted nearly two hours in total. Sawatzky, who also directs the Youth Academy for the Sounders FC, working closely with the MLS team as well, was able to give a broad perspective to the group.

“Darren kept the group tuned in and engaged,” Steve Seddon said. “The group enjoyed the upbeat tempo to the training session and responded well to Darren. After training was over the boys wanted to ask questions about Sounders 1st Team players and international soccer. Darren did an awesome job to field their questions and talk all things soccer with us.”

Darren Sawatzky said, “Working with the boys at BlackHills FC was fun, and it is always great to see how different clubs operate and train players. The boys were very keen on the modern game and the session went very well because the group was open to instruction.  I look forward to working with the players at BlackHills again.”

Seddon added, “The experience was very positive for the players and myself.”

The Sounders U-23 management will travel to Tampa, Florida for United Soccer Leagues’ Annual General Meetings on December 12-15. One of the many duties in Tampa will include scheduling for the 2014 PDL season.
