The Sounders have concluded their final local training session before flying out tomorrow for the Carolina Challenge Cup.
Three takeaways from today's session:
1.) Right back DeAndre Yedlin was held out of today's session due to what coach Sigi Schmid indicated was a minor ankle injury.
2.) The club flies to Charleston, S.C. tomorrow, will train there for a couple of days and then will play the first of three Challenge Cup games Saturday against the host Charleston Battery. Schmid said the Cup competition will be used to make some final decisions regarding his First 11. He noted that the club's victory in the Desert Diamond Cup didn't really accomplish much, so winning this tournament isn't his highest priority. Schmid also said there will be some tough decisions at the back end of the roster too, so it seems likely the club will add another friendly in addition to the match announced yesterday against the College of Charleston.
3.) Some cuts will be made before then however, as Schmid said not everyone who trained today will be traveling with the team. Schmid indicated that even these will be difficult cuts, as he sees this as an unusually deep camp and that there is no one currently training who is clearly out of his depth.
