Sounders-Dynamo in Challenge Cup at 2 p.m.

Blackbaud Stadium on rainy Wednesday in Charleston, S.C.[/caption]With the start of the Major League Soccer season 10 days away, Seattle Sounders FC will play its second-to-last preparatory match at 2 p.m. today against the Houston Dynamo.

Seattle opened the round-robin Carolina Challenge Cup on Saturday with a 2-1 win over the host Charleston Battery of USL Pro. Houston lost 2-0 to D.C. United, which Seattle will face Saturday in its final match before the MLS opener March 8 against Sporting Kansas City at CenturyLink Field.

Overall, Seattle is 5-0-1 in its preseason games.

Individually, Obafemi Martins and Kevin Parsemain lead the club with two goals each. Andy Rose has one goal and two assists over a team-high 265 minutes played.

Seattle’s reworked defense has allowed four goals over six games, with newcomers Jalil Anibaba playing 210 minutes over four appearances, and Chad Marshall playing the full 90 minutes in both of his last two starts.

Among the goalkeepers, Marcus Hahnemann has allowed two goals over 270 minutes (0.67 goals per 90 minutes) and got the win against Charleston. Newcomer Stefan Frei has allowed one goal in 150 minutes (0.60 GAA) over two starts and is expected to get the call against Houston.

Over the offseason, the Dynamo added defender David Horst in a trade with Portland and Tony Cascio on loan from Colorado while losing forwards Brian Ching (retired) and Cam Weaver (now on trial with the Sounders) and defender Bobby Boswell. Houston is 6-3-0 this preseason, but 1-3 against MLS opponents.

ADDED TIME Sounders second-round draft pick Jimmy Ockford apparently signed with the club and then on Tuesday was loaned to the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League, according to media reports and a Twitter post by Ockford. … The Sounders have announced no personnel comings or goings in connection with the MLS Waiver Draft going on this week.
