Impact reacts to home loss to Sounders: "A brutal and harsh game," "Not what we were looking for"

MontrealHere's some of what the Montreal Impact had to say today after opening their home season with a 2-0 loss to the Sounders:

Impact head coach Frank Klopas Thoughts on the game… We are home and we gave up an early goal. If we look at the game, our overall possession, quality crosses, ability to get in good spots and to then come away with nothing it just seems like we’re not getting any little breaks. Although, the guys pushed all the way to the end and worked extremely hard so we have to keep going forward.

On problems creating offensive plays… We got 33 open crosses in the box, so we definitely got in the right spots, but we pushed the game and created chances and got into the right places, we just couldn’t finish. I know the guys were excited to play at home in front of this great crowd; it’s just disappointing having to wait another week to be able to get on the field again On Wenger’s performance… He worked extremely hard today. It was difficult when we were sending him balls with Marshall on his back, because anytime you play balls through the middle you have to have guys that are moving off. We talked about it before the game, about finding gaps in between the lines, but when you play balls to him you have to have midfielders moving so that he can play balls off. He definitely moved in the right moments but we had to give him more options so that we can play quicker and play the ball wide where we had success. With a forward it’s just about finding rhythm and having confidence and knowing that the next opportunity is going to be the one that goes in the goal.

Patrice Bernier Thoughts on the game… It wasn’t a bad game, but wasn’t a good game either. We gave too much space to the other team in the first half and then we were just running after the game. Tuesday we have to get back into playing. I won’t say that we will forget this, but we have to work on it quickly and concentrating on getting points.

On Di Vaio returning… Marco is a player that brings fear to the other team and more confidence to our team by knowing that you have a guy on your side that can change the game in the spur of a moment. We still, as a team, need to be a unit and create better chances for ourselves. Maybe having Marco back will give us fresh legs ans give us a spark to come out with some points next game.

Justin Mapp Thoughts on the game… Definitely not what we were looking for, but we have to regroup and keep going. It’s always tough, but we seem to always be giving up goals pretty early so then we’re always chasing the game. I still thought we played well enough.

Did have a good number of chances… It was a brutal and harsh game, two untimely goals against us and they didn’t have too many other chances to score. We really pushed the play and we just didn’t have that killer instinct to find that first goal and push it from there.
