Forwards earn praise in Sounders' 2-0 win at Montreal

LogoSoundersSome Sounders' reaction to their 2-0 win today at Montreal:

Seattle Sounders FC head coach Siegfried SchmidOn his tactical approach to the match“I thought it was good. We wanted to sit back a little bit, so I knew we were going to absorb some pressure. We were trying to get forward on the counter and I figured we could create some chances like that.”

On scoring early on the road“Obviously it helps when you’re trying to sit in a little bit and look to counter. When you catch that goal, it makes it easier for you to continue to do what you were doing.”

On the play of Seattle’s forwards (Martins, Neagle and Cooper)“I thought Oba played really well holding the ball up for us and allowing the team to connect in. Kenny and Lamar did a good job at that also. They play a really high line at the back, so that was something we wanted to exploit.” Lamar NeagleOn scoring in his return to Montreal“Every game you want to score and get some points, especially for an attacker. To do it against your old team and your old friends, it’s always good for talking up later. It was a nice way to start off, especially when you’re away.”

On the team’s starting approach and scoring early from a set piece“We definitely wanted to sit back a little bit more than we usually do and then counter. To get it on a set play, it’s usually what you kind of want to do. When you’re an away team, take your time on set plays and make the most of them, and we did that.”

Djimi TraoreOn playing Montreal“We knew they were a team that lost their first two games. That could have affected their confidence mentally. We knew that if we came here and scored early, it would put even more pressure on them. That’s what we did. We followed the coach’s game plan.”

On playing without Clint Dempsey and Brad Evans“It shows we have a good squad. We were missing quality players like Clint Dempsey and Brad Evans, but we have other players that can come in at any time and do the work.”
