This news today from MLS:
Columbus Crew midfielder Bernardo Añor was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 3 of the 2014 MLS season.
In the Crew’s 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, Bernardo Añor scored both goals of Columbus’ goals during the first half, leading the Crew to their first 2-0-0 start in the club’s history.
In the 24th minute, Columbus Crew forward Federico Higuain launched a high arching corner kick into the box, where a wide-open Añor ran onto it for powerful header that bounced once past a crowd of Union defenders into the back of the net.
In the second minute of first half stoppage time, Añor scored the eventual game-winning goal. Crew midfielder Wil Trapp won possession in the midfield and played a one-touch ball to Añor, who took two touches before sending a left-footed rocket from 35 yards out past Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath.
The Crew will take to the road this Saturday, March 29 against the Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field (10:00 p.m. ET).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
