This just in from the league:
Sporting Kansas City midfielder Graham Zusi was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 4 of the 2014 MLS season.
In Sporting Kansas City’s 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Zusi played a part in all three goals, scoring one and assisting on two, including the stoppage time winner.
Zusi scored the game’s first goal in the 50th minute. Sporting Kansas City midfielder Paulo Nagamura played a ball down the right side to forward Sal Zizzo who beat Colorado defender Marc Burch and crossed the ball in front of the goal to Zusi for an easy finish.
With Kansas City trailing 2-1 in the 79th minute, Zusi beat his defender down the left flank and perfectly placed a deep cross to Zizzo who headed the ball to midfielder Benny Feilhaber inside the six-yard box to level the score.
With the game still tied in the second minute of stoppage time, Zusi found forward Dom Dwyer at the top of the 18-yard box, who dribbled his way past Rapids defender Drew Moor and blasted a shot past goalkeeper John Berner to win the game for Sporting KC.
Sporting Kansas City takes on Real Salt Lake in rematch of MLS Cup 2013 on Saturday at Sporting Park (8:30 p.m. ET).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
