Schmid expects fight from USA vs. Mexico tonight

US SoccerRemember USA-Mexico "friendly" at 8:15 tonight from Glendale, Ariz., on ESPN.

Sounders Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin with the USA.

Here's a preview from U.S. Soccer. And this from MLSsoccer.com.

On Tuesday, we asked Sounders coach Sigi Schmid what he expected from the match.

"It should be guys fighting for positions on the team," he said. "Some guys are going to get opportunities to show because the European players aren’t here, and other guys are out there trying to make a case to make sure that they’re included in the group of 22. There’s a lot at stake. Obviously playing in a World Cup is a tremendous feather in everybody’s cap. But along with that there’s also a good amount of money that comes with it: the money for making the team, the money for appearaces, money for advancing at the World Cup. So you’ll see players that probably work a little harder than they work in MLS."

We also asked about USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann's decision to replace injured Sounder Brad Evans (calf) on the roster."It was just a decision that Jurgen and I both felt it would be better for Brad to continue his rehab here," Schmid said. "We just want to make sure that he’s able to get over this injury completely, so we slowed it down a little bit. The question of whether he’ll be ready for Saturday is up in the air at this stage. We really wanted to back off at the beginning of the week and see how he responds."
