Reign's unbeaten start extended with draw in KC

ReignFCHere's the game report from the club:

Seattle Reign FC (7-0-1, 22 pts) continued their unbeaten streak with a 1-1 draw against FC Kansas City(3-4-3, 13 pts) at the Verizon Wireless Field at Durwood Stadium on Wednesday, May 21.

FC Kansas City opened the scoring in the 42nd minute when Liz Bogus played a ball to U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) forward Amy Rodriguez, who blasted a shot past USWNT keeper Hope Solo.

Reign FC wasted no time pressing for an equalizer. Defender Elli Reed carried a loose ball into dangerous territory before her cross rebounded to her feet. Reed drew contact from FC Kansas City midfielder Jen Buczowski and the penalty was awarded to the visiting team.

Scottish international Kim Little stepped up to the penalty spot and slotted a well-placed ball past FC Kansas City keeper Nicole Barnhart. Little’s goal marked her seventh of the season, bringing her tied for league goal scorer with Rodriguez.

The second half saw both sides sharing possession and the momentum shifted between them until the final whistle. While Reign FC narrowly out shot FC Kansas city 11 to 8, both teams were even with four shots on goal.

"We are pleased to be undefeated. Disappointed to not get 3 points, but 4 points against Kansas City shows progression for our group.” said Reign FC head coach and general manager Laura Harvey. The tie marked the first time this season that Reign FC did not come away with all 3 points. Their eight game unbeaten streak keeps them on top of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) table with 22 points. Seattle also lead the NWSL in goals scored with 17.

Reign FC will meet FC Kansas City for their third and final regular season matchup on Saturday, August 2 in Kansas City.

Seattle will now return home to square off against the Western New York Flash on Sunday, May 25 at the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium. The match kicks off at 4 p.m. (PT) and will be available via a live, high-definition webstream at YouTube.com/NWSL.
