SUMNER, Wash. – The Sounders U-23 are all about #TheFuture, while winning games now! With 16 former Sounders U-23 players now applying their trade for professional teams around the world, we check in with Miles Byass. Miles signed this offseason with JIPPO Joensuu in Finland.

JIPPO is based in Joensuu. It plays in the Ykkönen, the second highest level of Finnish football. – What does this mean to you, to sign your first pro-team contract?Miles Byass – It’s a long awaited start to my career, and I hope to get the best out of this season and see what I can make out of the first contract and professional opportunity. – How did playing with the Sounders U-23 aid you in your career?Miles Byass – Playing with the Sounders really helped me in being in a professional environment. [Coach] Darren's expectations day in day out helped me in seeing what I needed improvement on. – What role did the U-23s play in your career path to the pros?Miles Byass – I would say Darren [Sawatzky] as a coach really helped carve the pathway to being a professional. He's a great coach with heaps of knowledge on the game that really helped me mentally.

Sounders FC U-23The Sounders FC U-23 (est.2012) competes in the United Soccer League’s Premier Development League (PDL). The Sounders FC U-23 are independently operated from the Seattle Sounders FC, under the ownership of Lane Smith and Cliff McElroy, with minority owner, Mike Jennings. The club is officially operated with a marketing, branding, and naming affiliation contract with the Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC U-23 franchise has developed more than 15 professional players since the club’s establishment in 2012.
