Unbeaten Reign back at home Saturday

ReignFCHere's a preview from the club:

Seattle Reign FC (8-0-2, 26 pts) will look to extend its National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) record ten-match unbeaten streak to 11 games on Saturday, June 7, as they take on the Chicago Red Stars (6-3-1, 19 pts) at the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. (PT) with a live, high-definition webstream available at YouTube.com/NWSL.

Reign FC is coming off a 3-1 comeback victory over Sky Blue FC at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. last Sunday, putting up three second-half goals after heading into halftime down 1-0.In the 50th minute, forward Beverly Goebel beat her defender to find the feet of a wide open Nahomi “Naho” Kawasumi — appearing in her first game back with Reign FC after missing four matches while with the Japanese national team for the AFC Women’s Asia Cup — to tie the game at 1.

Just three minutes later, Scottish international Kim Little scored her league-leading ninth goal off a free kick to the far post, giving Seattle the lead.

Little was named the NWSL Army National Guard Player of the Month for May this week, becoming the first player in league history to win the award on multiple occasions, and in back-to-back months.

In the 74th minute, Kawasumi scored her second goal of the game, dribbling the ball over the goal line after a pass from Little went past Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Brittany Cameron.

Reign FC is in first place in the NWSL standings with 26 points, followed by the Red Stars and the Washington Spirit, tied for second place with 19.

The Red Stars are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Spirit on June 4. Goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc leads the NWSL with a 0.667 goals against average, allowing just six goals in nine games this season, while midfielder Lori Chalupny leads the team in goals with three. Chalupny and midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo have started all 10 games for the Red Stars, and have played all 900 minutes of action.

Saturday’s match is the first of three regular season matches between Seattle and Chicago. The two sides will meet on Saturday, July 12 at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill. at 5 p.m. (PT) and the following Sunday, July 20 at the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium. That game is set to start at 4 p.m. (PT).
