They are primary made up of college players, and the average age of the roster is 23.5 years.

They are among the top teams in the country at their level, but they had no answer even a Sounders FC lineup composed mostly of reserves Wednesday as Seattle took a 4-0 win in U.S. Open Cup play at Starfire Sports Stadium.

Kenny Cooper led Seattle with two goals. The others came from Zach Scott, Brad Evans and Sean Okoli.

Elite played the first half tightly packed in a defensive shell. They only rarely strung completed passes together, and rarely controlled the ball in their attacking third.

But still, their defensive cluster parked in front of their goal kept the Sounders off the scoreboard for 22 minutes.

Then Aaron Kovar intercepted a pass and carried it into the penalty area where he was knocked down, drawing a penalty kick. Brad Evans nailed the PK, moving Seattle ahead, 1-0.

That opened the floodgates a bit as the Sounder stuck again in the 40th minute, with Scott heading in a corner kick from Kovar. Three minutes later, Cooper knocked in a header of his own, giving the Sounders a 3-0 halftime advantage.

Cooper also started the scoring in the second half, using a bicycle kick to sent a high-bouncing ball into the net after a scramble in front. The final goal came late from rookie Okoli, who swept it in from close range.

The Sounders moved to 13-0 in Open Cup games at Starfire with a combined score of 38-7 with six shutouts.

The victory sends the Sounders on to the fifth round of the tournament, where they will meet the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

43' GOAL Kenny Cooper. Header from close range. Sounders, 3-0.

40' GOAL Seattle, this time a Zach Scott header off a corner by Aaron Kovar. Sounders continue to dominate. I can't recall any pass that PSA Elite has yet completed in the attacking third. Seattle, 2-0.

23' GOAL Seattle, on Brad Evans PK. Aaron Kovar had drawn it, intercepting a PSA Elite pass and carrying into the area, where he was knocked down.

Sounders have dominated, while Elite has been playing very defensively.
