Martins back from break, doubtful for Open Cup, says he's hearing from other teams

ObetweetObafemi Martins returned to Sounders training today after an extended World Cup break. He said he spent the time in Nigeria tending to some family responsibilities.

"I’m happy to be back," he said. "I’m ready to start. We’ve been doing well for since about 15 games now. I’m ready to go."

On his Twitter post declaring his happiness in Seattle: I have too much in a way. There are some teams that have been calling me and all that, so I've been waiting for them to know what it’s going to be like, if I’m going to renew my contract or to move on to so somewhere else. I'm still waiting.

Martins also said he does not plan on playing in the Sounders' Open Cup match against San Jose on Tuesday. However, coach Sigi Schmid didn't go quite that far, saying Martins wouldn't start but leaving open the possibility of a reserve role.

On if he's watching World Cup with any ambivalence because he isn't part of it:

I’m watching a few of the games. I think it’s really exciting. It’s surprising as well. … I think I’m a fan of soccer, so I enjoy it.
