Schmid gives health update after Sounders' final training session before Open Cup quarterfinal

us-open-cup1The Sounders have concluded their final training session before their U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal against Portland on Wednesday at Starfire. Here's some of what coach Sigi Schmid had to say.

On playing Timbers twice over next five days: It’s obviously a little bit different because we’re playing them two games back to back. They faced the same thing with Kansas City two weeks before. It is what it is.

On if MLS teams take Open Cup more seriously at this stage: Every team is different as to how they approach it, how many players they are going to rotate or whatever. I know our feeling – and I think the feeling of most of the teams at this stage is we’re in it to win it. We’re trying to win it, they’re trying to win it. So we’re going to put out the best team that makes sense with a little bit of an eye toward Sunday.

On health of team, starting with Marcus Hahnamann, who has been in goal throughout the Open Cup so far: He’s got a little bit of a (hamstring) strain. He’s coming along, making progress. … Remick trained full today. Oba did a little bit more, so he’s coming along. Traore is doing more all the time – possibly ready by Sunday. Rose is starting to do more.
