Sounders in Texas preparing for FC Dallas

The Sounders beat the worst of the Texas heat with a morning session in Friso today, which ended shortly after noon. I have included some updates on specific topics in posts below. Here's some of the general stuff left over from our interview with coach Sigi Schmid:

On the session: It’s good to get back at it and train. Yesterday was a long day with the flight, and getting here. We just did a little pool re-gen instead of getting on the field and knocking the ball around is a good thing. … Getting back on the field is something they want to do. This group is obviously disappointed in the performance on Saturday night. It doesn’t matter who played, they’re disappointed in the performance. And we’re looking at putting in a normal Seattle performance on Wednesday.

On health of the team: It’s doing better. (Gonzalo) Pineda definitely took a knock (Saturday at New York). I don’t know how that wasn’t a yellow card: It was a tackle from behind. So he’s the only one who wasn’t able to train today. On past successes against Dallas: We really don’t think about that. We just think about ourselves a little bit. We know we’re capable about playing better soccer. The Open Cup was a great victory for the club, and I think it’s important for players to be able to enjoy those moments, because you don’t get those moments often enough as a player. So we want to try to grab another one. This is our game in hand, so we think about it that way more than we think about what we’ve done against Dallas in the past.

On Dallas' six-game home win streak: They’re a good team. They’re fast. I’m not quite sure why they rested (Fabian) Castillo and (Matt) Hedges the last game. There’s a little bit of uncertainty there: Was it because of injury or was he just resting them for us? Obviously I would have rathered seen them play on Saturday, and that would have given the Galaxy a tougher game as well. They’ve got good speed with Castillo. (Andres) Escobar has really come into his own. (Tesho) Akindele has done well with Bras Perez. They seem to have found a unit in the middle of the back with (Zach) Loyd and Hedges. So from that standpoint they have definitely solidified their lineup.
