"It feels great for sure," Pappa said today after training.
Here's the report from the league:
Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Marco Pappa was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 33 of the 2014 MLS regular season. Pappa scored both goals in the Sounders’ Supporters’ Shield clinching 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy in the final minutes of the game on Saturday.
In the 85th minute, Pappa scored his first goal of the match. Following a quickly taken free kick, forward Obafemi Martins threaded the ball through two Galaxy defenders to find Pappa making a run into the left side of the box. The Guatemalan midfielder first-timed the ball past the on-rushing Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo and into the back of the net. Pappa clinched the Sounders’ first Supporters’ Shield with his second goal in the fifth minute of added time. After an initial challenge on Penedo, Pappa won the ball and charged into the box chipping a shot over a LA Galaxy defender and into the back of the net. The Sounders will host the winner of the Western Conference play-in match between FC Dallas and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday, November 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and TSN2. The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
