"We talked yesterday after he got back, and we said we’d talk again today at the end of practice," coach Sigi Schmid said. "He’ll be available for the game tomorrow."
Here's some of what Evans had to say:
On the win vs. Germany: Personally the experience was great. Fantastic venue in Cologne. The stage was set for a good night. They’d come into camp only a couple of days prior. Still, that’s a very good team. The first half, I thought they played phenomenal, moving the ball, finding space. The second half we come out with a little more decisiveness, willingness to go forward, and it changed the game. But overall, a great experience. Always an honor to represent your country.
On his game-winning assist: It was cool, but most importantly happy for the guys to get the win away from home against a massive team. Always good to be involved in the final play, but most important is the team.
On how feels on eve of MLS match vs. FC Dallas: Good. We’ll have a conversation later today, but participated full training today and felt good. I think the flight was at a good time yesterday: got in around 11 o’clock and stayed up and then got a good night’s sleep. So, take care of the body today, and then we’ll have a conversation later on.
On which is more draining: time on the pitch or time in airline seat: With the U.S. team now when you’re traveling internationally it’s business- or first-(class) so you can lie flat and get some sleep. That changes things dramatically in terms of your availability for the next game. If I sat in coach like that, no way. But being able to lie down and get some sleep on the plane is probably invaluable going forward.
On the Seattle/Sounders imprint on national team: It’s cool. It gives you a sense of pride. Obviously the youth movement is key. If we can continue to get guys involved, it says a lot about the club.
