Sounders Insider

No Oba, no Dempsey ... but maybe light at end of tunnel

Neither DP forward Clint Dempsey nor Obafemi Martins traveled to Los Angeles for this afternoon’s Sounders match against the Galaxy. (1 p.m., ESPN.)

Martins has been out since mid-June with a leg injury. Dempsey’s absence is more of a surprise, however he left Friday training early, as what coach Sigi Schmid called a precautionary move by the trainers. The club now says the injury isn’t believed to be long-term, but obviously serious enough to leave him home.

Former DP midfielder Osvaldo Alonso also is out with a hamstring injury.

If anyone is looking for good news, it sounds like the club expects Martins to return a week from today when Orlando visits CenturyLink Field. And that game also could mark the debut of new designed player Nelson Valdez.
