Sounders: health, CCL, Fisher, Thomas

A few basics from coach Sigi Schmid today as the Sounders moved their attention from the 4-0 win over Orlando on Sunday to their CCL date with Olimpia of Honduras on Wednesday at CenturyLink Field:

On player availabilities) We’ll see how things go. We’ve got to get through the training week and see. Ivanschitz felts better today, so he sent through training, no now we’ve got to see how he feels. Demspey did a little bit more. Alonso did a little bit more. And Leo was in training today as well. … (Evans) came through alright. He just got hit on his knee and he got stepped on.

On what he knows about Olimpia) We’ve got some idea. We got a little bit of tape that we’ve looked at and Kurt (Schmid) has seen them play a little bit. We know right now they haven’t gotten off to a good start in their league. I think they’re 0-3 right now in league play. But that doesn’t mean anything right now. Champions League is a whole different ball of wax. They lost one of their top players from last year, but they have Rojas back with them who was out on loan. He hasn’t played any of the league games, so he’ll probably be available to them on Wednesday.

On Fisher’s start at left back over Remick) I think Fisher has played well, and Remick has dealt with a little bit of a knock. Fisher has shown that he can play both right and left – that he’s not uncomfortable with his left foot. I thought he stepped in and had a good game.

On Thomas off the bench) Maybe coming off the bench he can spark the game a little bit. I think he’s still getting used to the MLS game. To the rhythm. Guys get tighter. Sometimes with the referee you’re not getting calls when you get bumped into. So he’s still learning all those things. It was good for him, for his confidence, to get goal yesterday. I think it was important.

The Sounders return to training Tuesday.
