It’s time to pick the July selection for the TNT Book Club

Hello members of the TNT Book Club!

We are coming to the end of another month, so it’s time to select the book to read in July.

The choices, from your submissions, are:

“Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria” by Beverly Daniel Tatum. Tatum is a renowned authority on the psychology of racism and wrote a groundbreaking book with lessons and knowledge that still can be learned from today. Tatum argues that discussing racial identities is necessary to tackle the urgent conversations that need to be had.

“The Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennett. A new novel from the bestselling author follows twin sisters, as close as can be, who take different paths in their lives, placing them in two different worlds: one black and one white. Tracing multiple generations of family from the Deep South to California, this ambitious novel is wide in scope while also being a riveting character study.

“The Water Dancer” by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Coates is well known for his essays and razor-sharp political commentary, including his book “Between The World And Me.” “The Water Dancer” is fictional but draws upon history as it follows Hiriam Walker, who was born into bondage but gains a mysterious power that will change the course of his life.

Please vote by noon on Wednesday, June 24.

We will announce the selection following the vote, where to find the book (such as the local bookseller King’s Books) and when a meeting to discuss it will take place.

You can find the poll here.

Happy reading!
