Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Comedy Club announces closure
For audiences wanting to see live comedy in Tacoma, that just got a lot harder. Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Comedy Club announced Wednesday that it was closing after additional guidance was released that prohibited all live entertainment in Phase 2 and 3.
A statement posted on the club website said, “We are closing until further notice due to Governor Inslee’s newly revised COVID-19 phase plan that prohibits live entertainment.”
The lineup of shows through Aug. 22 are now labeled as postponed. The most recent show was supposed to be Tommy Davidson, who was set to do five shows from Thursday, July 16 through Saturday, July 18.
In a post on his personal social media, owner and comic Nate Jackson said “you will be refunded if you request it” and “otherwise your tickets will be transferred to when we do return.”
The move comes against the backdrop of another venue in Tacoma, the Tacoma Comedy Club, not just closing their doors but also launching a petition to appeal for an exception to be made.
What set Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Comedy Club apart was that they just held their grand opening on July 9 after delaying from March, only to now see it all stop once again.
“I feel like I’m building a miraculous building that is nothing but positive for the community, for the comics, for everybody,” Jackson said prior to the opening. “We’re doing that, and now it’s standing out in the open, and corona is taking shots at it.”
There is much uncertainty when the club could now reopen, but the current statement from the club expressed gratitude for the community, which has shown support for the new business:
“Thank you for your love, support, energy, laughter, and light.”
