Tacoma Pierce County Humane Society hosts Dog-a-Thon

Join in canine fun while supporting the programs at the Tacoma Pierce County Humane Society’s Dog-a-Thon at Fort Steilacoom Park, 8698 87th Ave. SW in Lakewood, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. The fun includes the Magnificent Mutt Contest; dog demonstrations; and pet products, supplies and food. Individuals and groups can make a difference with pledges and donations. Diversity celebrated at annual Ethnic Fest

Come out and celebrate Pierce County’s diversity and cultures at the annual Ethnic Fest at Wright Park, 501 S. I St., Tacoma. The park will come alive with culture, entertainment, vendors, information booths and food from around the world. Stick around Saturday evening and enjoy the Click Outdoor Mobile Movie playing “The Book of Life” at dusk with music by Dr. G before the movie at 7:15 p.m. The festival is noon-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and is free to the public. Fine food and wine at Gig Harbor Wine and Food Festival

With more than 60 wineries, craft distilleries, breweries, local restaurants and food companies on hand, the Gig Harbor Wine and Food Festival will take over the Harbor History Museum, 4121 Harborview Drive, Gig Harbor on Saturday. Celebrity chefs will be on hand with a cook-off making the day all about food and drink. The grand tasting is noon-4:30 p.m. with tickets at $75 that includes tastes of wine and food. Family gardening event hosted by Tacoma’s Envirohouse

Tacoma’s Envirohouse is hosting a family and children’s gardening workshop from 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday. Families can explore nature with special guests Scoopy Doo and his friend Digger the Dog and learn how to identify and attract good bugs and pollinators to your garden. There will interactive activities for everyone. The free event is at the Envirohouse, 3510 S. Mullen St., Tacoma. For more information, call 253-573-2426.
