Curran Apple Orchard concert will feature American Legion Band

Get patriotic at the Curran Apple Orchard Summer Concert Series. This week’s installment will feature the American Legion Band performing contemporary Americana music at the 6:30 p.m. concert. Bring a picnic or buy from the food vendor. Bring a chair and blanket for an evening of music. Author talks about book and crafting at Parkland Spanaway Library

Meet author Blair Stocker as she talks about her book, “Wise Craft: Turning Thrift Store Finds, Fabric Scraps, and Natural Objects into Stuff You Love.” Participate in a make-and-take activity crafting your own creation using provided materials. Bird lecture delves into Pacific Northwest shorebirds

For all you bird lovers, make plans to take in “Birds of the Wind: The Lives and Times of Northwest Shorebirds,” a photo-illustrated lecture. It will explore the natural history of Pacific Northwest shorebirds, discussing their foraging, migration and breeding. It will take place at Thompson Hall 175, University of Puget Sound, 1500 N. Pierce County Fair kicks off at Frontier Park in Graham

Take in the old-fashioned country vibe when the Pierce County Fair opens Thursday continuing through Aug. 9 at Frontier Park, 21616 Meridian Ave. E., Graham. There will be 4-H exhibits, demonstrations and livestock, plus live entertainment including the Wenatchee Youth Circus. Hop on some carnival rides and, of course, take in the variety of fair food. Hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday-Aug. 8, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 9. Admission is $5; parking is also $5. To get a complete list of events, go to piercecountyfair.com.
