Iconic '90s Rocker Announces Major News for the First Time in 30 Years

Billy Corgan has some exciting news for wrestling fans.

The frontman of The Smashing Pumpkins and president of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) announced on Monday that their flagship program, NWA Powerrr, will debut on Sinclair's Comet TV on May 1 and 2. The first episode will premiere at 10 pm, followed up by a brand new second episode on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both shows will air again at 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.

This will be the first time in 30 years that Comet will be making wrestling accessible to fans across the country via over-the-air broadcast television. Powered by Signet/Data One, NWA's new era with Comet brings free entertainment to wrestling fans.

"Wrestling was meant to bring fans closer to the action," said Corgan, according to Blabbermouth. "The NWA has always been about storytelling, personality and passion. This partnership with Sinclair's Comet TV is the first step in NWA's push into free television and allows us to reconnect with audiences the way I experienced wrestling growing up, when it was accessible to everyone."

Corgan officially entered the wrestling business in 2011 after establishing Resistance Pro Wrestling in Chicago. He also previously served as the senior producer and president for TNA Impact Wrestling from 2015 to 2016, before purchasing the NWA in 2017.

When it comes to balancing his career as a rock star and his interest in working in the wrestling industry, the 59-year-old entertainer is not concerned about the public's opinion of him at all.

"My version of rock star has always been I'm going to do what I want to do however I want to do it. Whether it's having my own tea house, the charitable work that I've done, to pursuing a life or a career in professional wrestling -- I think this is the American dream," he told ESPN back in 2016. "To me, I can't think of a better way to live anybody's life. You should do what you want to do. Life is such an incredible opportunity."

Fans can watch the premiere of NWA Powerrr on Comet TV on Friday, May 1 at 10 p.m. Users can live stream immediately on CometTV.com or by downloading the app on their Roku or Apple TV.
