Nancy Guthrie Update: Former Detective Thinks There's a Reason the 911 Calls Haven't Been Released

Retired detective Bob Gilliam believes there may be an important reason the 911 calls connected to the Nancy Guthrie case have not been released publicly. During a recent discussion about the investigation on The Interview Room, Gilliam suggested authorities could be keeping the recordings sealed to protect aspects of the case that may still be active behind the scenes.

"I don't think we're going to hear the 911 calls for a while and there could be a myriad of reasons for that. There's probably some investigative information in there that the detectives don't want out to the public," Gilliam said. "So, don't hold your breath, I think it's going to be quite a while before we hear anything like that."

Guthrie, 84, had dinner at her daughter's home on Saturday, January 31. After spending some time with family, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told The New York Times that Guthrie's son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, drove her home. This happened around 9:45 p.m. local time, according to the timeline released by authorities.

Cioni reportedly waited until Guthrie was safely inside her home before he drove away. What happened over the next few hours is still unclear, but investigators believe that Guthrie was taken from her home in the middle of the night. On Sunday, Feb. 1, Guthrie's friends got worried when she didn't show up for church, which they watched from a livestream at home, per NBC News.

From there, it's believed that someone called Guthrie's daughter, Annie Guthrie, who also couldn't reach her mom, so she went over to her house. When she realized her mom wasn't home, Annie called 911. It's unclear if any additional 911 calls were made.

Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or suspects in the case and Nancy's whereabouts are still unknown. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI).
