Secrets of Strixhaven Lorehold Spirit Commander Precon Upgrade Guide

Magic: The Gathering's Secrets of Strixhaven Lorehold Spirit Commander precon revolves around cards leaving the graveyard, generating Spirit tokens as its main payoff. It plays as a go-wide strategy, but it needs better setup and payoff density to fully capitalize on its engine.

In this guide, we'll cover the best upgrades to improve its consistency, enhance its graveyard interactions, and make its token strategy more effective.

Ark of Hunger

Ark of Hunger is a card from the Secrets of Strixhaven main set that fully supports the Lorehold Spirit precon's game plan. It deals 1 damage to each opponent and gains you 1 life when cards you control leave the graveyard. Additionally, it also helps you fill your graveyard and make cards leave it. This helps you get additional triggers from Quintorius to grow your Spirit army.

Antiquities on the Loose

Antiquities on the Loose is another card from the main set worth adding in the Lorehold Spirit precon. It creates two Spirit creature tokens to help you grow your board presence. This sorcery has flashback, which lets you get additional value from it while triggering Quintorius' token generation. This spell truly shines when you cast it from anywhere other than your hand since it'll also buff all your spirits.

Divine Reckoning

Divine Reckoning is a board wipe that works well in the Lorehold Spirit precon. This white sorcery makes each player choose a creature to save before it destroys the rest. Its real value though comes from it having flashback, letting you reuse it while also making you get a spirit from Quintorius.

On Wings of Gold

On Wings of Gold is an enchantment that works well in Zombie and token-based decks. It buffs both them and gives them evasion through flying. Because the Lorehold Spirit precon focuses on making Spirit creature tokens, it gets plenty of benefits from this card. Additionally, it also creates zombies when cards leave your graveyard, which is a nice added payoff.

Summoner's Sending

Summoner's Sending is another enchantment that's versatile in this precon. It lets you exile a creature card from a graveyard and rewards you with a flying Spirit token if you do. If the card you exile had a mana value of 4 or greater, the created token also gets a +1/+1 counter. This enchantment helps you create more Spirits, both by itself and through Quintorius. However, it also has the added utility of letting you exile your opponent's strongest creatures in their graveyards so they can't recur them again.

Lorehold Spirit becomes much more effective when its recursion engine is consistent and its payoffs are worth the setup. With the right upgrades, it can maintain pressure while steadily rebuilding its board.

Improving both its setup and token production allows the deck to fully capitalize on its go-wide strategy.
