Nancy Guthrie Update: Retired FBI Says Lack of Updates Is Calculated as Search Hits 100 Days
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother Nancy Guthrie's case officially hit 100 days-and a retired FBI agent said the lack of updates is likely calculated.
On Monday, May 11, KOLD-TV spoke with former FBI agent Scott Augenbaum about the Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) offering little to no insight about the investigation after the 84-year-old was abducted from her Tucson, Ariz., home on Feb. 1.
"There are primary case agents that their sole responsibility is to see this case through," Augenbaum explained. "We're probably not going to really hear much until somebody is indicted."
He added, "You don't want to tip off the hands of the suspect. If the suspect's out there now, you don't even want them to think anything is going on."

On May 8, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos offered a hopeful update on Nancy's case when he was approached by a Fox News Digital reporter ahead of Mother's Day. "It's 100 days now, almost, sir," the male journalist pointed out. "Are you guys any closer to solving?"
Nanos replied, "We are," while nodding and adding that things were going "really great."
Meanwhile, the FBI recently obtained DNA evidence-a hair sample-for analysis after the PCSD first sent it to a private lab in Florida. New technology could crack the case, genetic genealogist CeCe Moore told NewsNation's Brian Entin.
"Now we just have to hope that it is the person or persons-one of the persons-who kidnapped Nancy," Moore said of the rootless hair. "It's again, kind of a Hail Mary. Everything is getting to that point, I feel, because so much time has gone by. But you just never know."
However, processing the DNA evidence could still take months.
In other recent news, FBI Director Kash Patel publicly criticized the PCSD over its handling of the case, claiming the department pushed him out for four days. The PCSD released a statmeent about Patel's comments, which prompted the acting attorney general to set the record straight on "friction" between the agencies.
As of writing, no suspects have been named in Nancy's case.
