Nancy Guthrie Update: Retired FBI Agent Believes There's a Reason Annie Guthrie, Tommaso Cioni Are 'Laying Low'

Nancy Guthrie has been missing for more than 100 days and, while the investigation is still ongoing, several questions about her disappearance remain.

On Thursday, May 14, retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer pointed to reports that Nancy's daughter, Annie Guthrie, and Annie's husband, Tommaso Cioni, "have not been seen." In a post on X, Coffindaffer works through the reasons that the two may be staying out of the public eye.

"Why are they laying low?" Coffindaffer wondered, saying she thinks it's due to "obvious concern over ridicule." She went on to give additional reasons why Annie and Cioni might be staying quiet.

"Defamation suits: In most states, including Arizona, one has to prove that a falsehood was made, such as being accused of a crime, and that the person(s) suffered damage," Coffindaffer continued, before listing off said damages.

She also pointed out that a lot of people still suspect that Annie and Cioni have something to do with Nancy's disappearance. Many people have been critical of the couple, especially Cioni, who hasn't spoken out at all since his mother-in-law went missing. Both Annie and her husband were cleared in the case by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.

Nancy was last seen by her daughter and son-in-law, as she had dinner at their home on Saturday, Jan. 31. After dinner, Sheriff Nanos said that Cioni drove Nancy back to her home, about 10 minutes away.

Anyone with information about what might have happened to Nancy is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI). A reward of more than $1 million remains in place.
