Kacey Musgraves and Miranda Lambert Make Country Music History With Rare Chart Achievement

Kacey Musgraves and Miranda Lambert have accomplished a rare Billboard feat.

On Musgraves' sixth studio album Middle of Nowhere, released on Apr. 30, the pair debuted the duet "Horses and Divorces" about their past feud.

The track debuted at No. 84 on Billboard‘s Hot 100, making Musgraves and Lambert the first women to debut on the chart with an all-female country duet since 2014.

At that time, Lambert achieved the feat with Carrie Underwood when their duet "Something Bad" debuted at No. 39 on the chart.

The origin of Musgraves and Lambert's feud is often traced back to the song "Mama's Broken Heart," which was released as the fourth single from Lambert's Four the Record album in 2013.

The track was written by Musgraves alongside Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. According to long-standing rumors, Lambert was eager to record the song, while Musgraves was initially reluctant to give it up because she believed it had potential to be a hit.

It's been speculated that Lambert asked Musgraves for the song during her wedding to Blake Shelton-either at the reception or the rehearsal dinner-and that Musgraves ultimately agreed, as Lambert was the bigger artist at the time. Neither woman has ever corroborated the story.

"We'd lost touch for years and wouldn't consider each other friends," Musgraves recently told NPR of her relationship with Lambert. "I saw her on Instagram one day, riding one of her horses, and I was like, ‘Well, we ain't friends, but I guess we have two things in common, horses and divorces, that's for sure. Wait, that could be a really funny song. What if it's a duet with her? What if I got her to write on it?'"
