'90s Country Classic Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 29 Years Later

Nearly 30 years after its original release, The Greatest Hits Collection by Brooks & Dunn is suddenly climbing the charts again.

The iconic compilation album is steadily rising on the Billboard 200, introducing a new generation of listeners to one of the most successful country duos of the 1990s. The album currently holds the No. 140 spot, up five positions from last week.

Originally released in 1997, The Greatest Hits Collection gathered many of Brooks & Dunn's biggest songs from the decade when the duo dominated country radio and helped redefine mainstream country music.

The album includes signature hits like "Boot Scootin" Boogie," "My Maria," "Neon Moon" and "Brand New Man," tracks that became essential parts of the country music boom of the 1990s. At the time, the duo stood out for blending traditional honky-tonk influences with arena-sized production and rock-inspired energy.

Consisting of Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, Brooks & Dunn became one of the most commercially successful acts in country music history, scoring dozens of chart-topping hits and helping bring country music to larger mainstream audiences.

"Ronnie and I are both at a point in our career where you have to be careful with how much you expect for radio to play," Brooks told Music Row. "We've had our run at radio and there are a lot of great new artists who are getting their shot now. That's the way of the world and at some point you have to find joy in the success you've had and find a new place as a performer and artist you have to accept time marches on. Just like we did, new artists are going to take a shot and there's gotta be room for them."

Still, The Greatest Hits Collection continues to climb the Billboard 200 chart.

Part of the album's current resurgence appears tied to the continued popularity of nostalgic country playlists and streaming rediscovery among younger listeners. Songs like "Neon Moon" in particular have developed a massive second life on social media platforms including TikTok, where emotional country ballads and nostalgic 1990s aesthetics continue resonating with younger audiences.

The duo has also experienced renewed visibility in recent years through touring, collaborations and their successful Reboot projects featuring modern country artists revisiting classic Brooks & Dunn songs. As a result, The Greatest Hits Collection has remained remarkably durable long after its original release.

For many longtime fans, the album represents a defining era of country music when Brooks & Dunn helped shape the sound of modern country radio.

"The songs, that's what's important," Dunn told Billboard in 2019. "People would ask us in the early days, 'What do you want at the end of the line?' We just want to create music that withstands the challenge of time."

Now, nearly three decades later, the collection is proving its appeal hasn't faded, continuing to climb the charts as both longtime fans and first-time listeners rediscover one of country music's most influential catalogs.
