Netflix Quietly Cancels Hit Series After 1 Season

Even some of the highest-rated or most popular series aren't safe from cancellation. Netflix has axed another series without any public announcement, and it adds to their list of series that won't get a new season.

Writer Cullen Crawford announced on BlueSky that his animated series, Strip Law, had been cancelled after just one season on the streaming platform. The adult animated sitcom premiered on Netflix on Feb. 20 and was announced to have ended its run on May 30.

"So they told me there's not going to be any more Strip Law at Netflix. I really can't be anything but grateful. At every phase, it was made by talented people in pursuit of nothing but pure chaotic delirious joy, and I'm so so proud of it. Thank you to everyone who gave it a chance. I thought it was funny," he wrote in his post.

The Strip Law creator went on to reveal that they had a lot of storyline ideas they wanted to bring to life for the series. As a final farewell to fans, Crawford revealed a huge secret about the would-have-been series finale and who the skeleton man in the credit scene is.

Strip Law captured audiences' attention thanks to its stellar list of actors serving as the voices for the main characters. The cast included Adam Scott, Janelle James, Stephen Root, Shannon Gisela, and Keith David. Special guests even included Criminal Minds star Paget Brewster, George Wallace, Drew Tarver, Jim Rash, and SpongeBob SquarePants legend Tom Kenny.

The 10-episode series centers on a law firm, with the Netflix logline reading: "Uptight lawyer Lincoln Gumb is too boring to win cases in Vegas until he teams up with local magician/hedonist Sheila Flambé to bring some flash and pizzazz to the stupidest cases the city can throw at them."

Despite its limited run, Strip Law garnered favorable ratings, with IMDb scoring it a 6/10 and Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 75%. Critics called the animated sitcom "cheerfully absurd," "Unhinged and surreal," and a "fun delight for fans of the absurd."

Strip Law is the newest addition to Netflix's cancelled series, including The Abandons, Terminator Zero, The Vince Staples Show, Pop The Balloon LIVE, Selling the City, With Love, Meghan, Alice In Borderland, Class, and Miss Governor.
