Is Jimmy Kimmel Leaving His Late-Night Show? Here's What We Know
As The Late Show with Stephen Colbertcomes to an end, other late-night hosts are looking ahead to their futures - including Jimmy Kimmel. According to People, the end could be in sight for him.
In a recent interview with Vulture, the host was candid about what could be next for him and Jimmy Kimmel Live!
"I don't know what ABC is going to want to do," Kimmel said. "It's an unusual position to be in, but I do still have a year left on my contract, and that's what I agreed to."
Kimmel said he's considered leaving sooner, but wants to be responsible.
"I know I could go out in a blaze of glory and get a lot of applause for it, but it would be a very selfish thing to do," Kimmel said.
Kimmel's producer, Erin Irwin, also spoke with Vulture. She said that he's been talking about leaving for a while. While Irwin hopes Kimmel continues through the 2028 election, she's not sure the show will last until then.
"I don't know if Jimmy can do it for that long," Irwin said. "He's tired."
As for what's next, Kimmel isn't sure yet either.
"Professionally, I have no idea what I'm going to do after this," Kimmel said. "Freedom is what I want more than anything. I want to be able to go fishing because the fishing's good."
In September, Disney temporarily suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! from their network after Kimmel commented on the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel said to Vulture regarding Colbert's cancellation that late-night shows are "being poisoned."
"One of the things we talked about when I first got suspended was that I can't do this show if I'm going to be micromanaged," Kimmel said.
While it's unclear when Jimmy Kimmel Live! will end, following Colbert's exit, Kimmel said: "I feel like I'm looking at my own future."
