Game of Thrones: Dragonfire Launches Now on Mobile - Command 28 Dragons in WB's House of the Dragon Strategy Game
Warner Bros. Games and HBO have launched Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, a free-to-play mobile strategy game set during the Targaryen Civil War at the heart of House of the Dragon. The game is available now on iOS via the App Store and Android via Google Play, developed by Warner Bros. Games Boston. We've been waiting for this since the original pre-registration announcement earlier this year. Now, the wait is over.
Players enter Westeros as a new dragonrider, a Valyrian descendant newly bonded with their first dragon. The core loop is about growing that dragon from whelp to war mount, building armies, and fighting for territorial control of the Seven Kingdoms through tile-based tactical combat. The ultimate goal is seizing King's Landing, and you're not the only one going for it.
28 Dragons, Five Armies, One Throne
Twenty-eight unique dragons are available at launch, including iconic beasts from the show like Caraxes and Syrax, alongside original dragons created for the game. Each dragon has distinct Command skills, passive Habit abilities, troop affinities, and synergies built to support different strategies. Players can field up to five dragon-led armies simultaneously, which provides players a lot of tactical options: coordinated marches, strategic assaults, and defensive setups across a full tiled map of Westeros.
There's also a Dragon Strike minigame that takes you directly into the air, flying your dragon to dodge obstacles and rain fire on enemies below. It's a satisfying break from the macro strategy layer and a way to engage more directly with the creatures at the center of the game.
Seasonal Reigns and a Living Westeros
The game is built around Seasonal Reigns, limited-time competitive seasons that reset territorial control and introduce new storylines and objectives. The reset mechanic keeps competition balanced for new and returning players without wiping long-term progress. Dragon growth is permanent across Reigns, so the time you put into raising and leveling your dragons carries forward even when the map reshuffles.
Alliances are central to map control. Coordinating with other players to garrison tiles, share reinforcements, and lock down resource positions is how you hold ground against larger factions. Individual tiles provide distinct bonuses: some offer resources for upgrading strongholds and training troops, others offer geographic advantages that change how quickly you can move and reinforce.
House of the Dragon's Story, Player-Shaped
The narrative side runs through Campaigns: epic, scenario-driven conflicts pulled from House of the Dragon events. You can fight to secure Rhaenyra Targaryen's claim to the Iron Throne, or take a different path and infiltrate the Greens to shape events from within. Familiar characters appear throughout: Rhaenyra Targaryen, Alicent Hightower, Aemond Targaryen, and Corlys Velaryon are all in the game, alongside original characters created for Dragonfire. Campaign stages change with each Reign, delivering new outcomes, rewards, and story branches across the life of the game.
"We're thrilled to bring Game of Thrones: Dragonfire to mobile players with an immersive strategy experience that is very authentic to House of the Dragon," says JB Perrette, CEO and President, Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery. "Our Warner Bros. Boston team did an amazing job creating a game true to the Game of Thrones world for fans, inviting them to build their legacy, forge alliances, and define their own battle for Westeros."
"With Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, we wanted to put the world of 'House of the Dragon' directly into players' hands," says Matt Read, Vice President and Studio Head at WB Games Boston. "From commanding dragons to navigating the choices that shape Westeros, we focused on creating a game that feels true to the universe fans love while giving them room to play their own way. Our team in Boston is excited to share the game for fans to engage with the world they know and love."
Watch House of the Dragon, Earn In-Game Rewards
In a first-of-its-kind collaboration between HBO Max and WB Games, players who link their accounts can earn in-game rewards by watching House of the Dragon Season 3. Each episode unlocks a bespoke reward, with a premium bonus for completing the full season. House of the Dragon Season 3 is expected on HBO later in 2026, and this is the first time WB has wired a streaming account directly to a game's reward loop in this way.
Game of Thrones: Dragonfire is free to play now on iOS and Android.
