Romantasy Sequel to International Phenomenon is Officially an Instant No. 1 'New York Times' Bestseller

Romantasy novelist Sarah. A Parker recently released the highly anticipated sequel to her bestselling novel, When the Moon Hatched. The second book, The Ballad of Falling Dragons came out on May 19th, 2026 and was instantly a number oneNew York Times Bestseller for combined print and e-fiction. The book has been sitting in the top spot strongly since its publication.

Part of Parker's Moonfall series, the first book in the series was initially self-published, but was acquired by HarperCollins due to its popularity. The book went on to be a USA Today bestseller, a Sunday Times bestseller, and a New York Times bestseller.

Originally from New Zealand, Parker has been a resident of Australia, where she lives with her husband, for the past decade. In addition to the Moonfall novels she also has the Crystal Bloom series, which has a fourth book forthcoming.

The Ballad of Falling Dragons picks up with protagonist, Raeve being forced choose between the path of life or death while the world is on the brink of yet another devastating moonfall. Moonfalls occur in the world because dragons become moons when they die, and they create catastrophic events when they fall back to Earth. Still deeply in love with and connected to Kaan Vaegor, the couple must work to find their way back to each other. Kaan is also faced with saving his kingdom from ruin, while Raeve long forgotten past is bubbling at the surface, ready to reveal itself.

The Ballad of Falling Dragons is supremely popular with readers and is currently holding a 4.6 on Goodreads. According to Parker, the Moonfall series will contain five books, so three more in total, with no specific release details as of yet.
