Film Based on Ali Hazelwood's Reylo Fanfiction Gets a Release Date

It’s honestly a flex to star in a movie based on the fanfiction written about your wife’s character. And that movie has now got a release date, finally!

For the unversed, Ali Hazelwood’s “The Love Hypothesis” has long been heralded as the Reylo (Rey and Kylo Ren from “The Star Wars“) fanfiction.

So, when Rey actress Daisy Ridley’s husband Tom Bateman was cast as the lead actor for the film adaptation of the beloved Ali Hazelwood novel, anticipation was at the all time high.

Now, the Claire Scanlon directorial screen adaptation of the highly touted novel got a fall release date. Per the latest reports, “The Love Hypothesis” is slated to drop on the Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 23.

While Scanlon is at the helm of the film, Sarah Rothschild wrote the screenplay, and Elizabeth Cantillon is producing the film.

Apart from Bateman, who portrays the role of biology professor Dr. Adam Carlsen, Lili Reinhart is playing the role of PhD student, Olive Smith. Rachel Marsh, Nicholas Duvernay, Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushanround off the talented star cast.

Based off one of the most favorite rom-com tropes of fake dating, the story follows Olive, who proposes to fake date the stern professor to prove the presence of her dating life to her best friend.

As one of the most loved contemporary romances, Adam and Olive have already gained the status of an iconic couple. Now, the first look of the couple - their first kiss really - has won over the fans.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, Bateman gushed about his chemistry with Reinhart, saying, "One of the most enjoyable parts of making this film was how well Lili and I got on and how that informed our on-camera chemistry.

"We really cared about these brilliant and beloved characters, and we bonded in our shared dream of making sure the relationship between the two of them feels organic and authentic."

Reinhart also had only good words about her co-star. She said, "I had the best time with Tom. I couldn't have asked for a better partner in all of this. He is the complete opposite of Adam in real life, so seeing him tap into this darker version of himself was very fun to watch.

"I actually just can't believe how lucky we got in casting Tom. It's scary at first when you think, Oh my gosh, how are we going to find the right actor who checks all these boxes, but he absolutely did,” she continued.

And now, it’s just the matter of a few months before we can experience the sizzling chemistry on screen on Prime Video. The time to re-read “The Love Hypothesis” has come afterall.
