'Today's Sheinelle Jones Shares Heartfelt Reflection One Year After Husband's Death

Sheinelle Jones is checking in with her fans a year after losing husband Uche Ojeh to brain cancer.

As the Today show anchor was absent from the NBC morning show on Monday, June 15, she used the time off to reflect on her first year of "grief" following Ojeh's death in May 2025 after a private battle with glioblastoma.

"My friend told me I was overdue for a check-in … so I figured I'd just share some of the recent pics on my phone… kind of a snap shot at life lately," Jones wrote on Instagram Monday alongside photos from beach outings, book signings and beyond. "From the sidelines at games, to the beach, book tour, and the office."

"It feels like the last few months have been some of the *best* of times, with some hard moments in between; perhaps that's the new normal," she reflected, continuing, "For anyone in this first year or so of grief … I just want you to know that I see you, and I hope you see me too. We can and must still have beautiful days filled with new wins, joy and hopefully peace that passes all understanding. Love you guys."

Jones' followers were quick to support her in the comments, with one Instagram user writing, "So beautifully said Sheinelle. Glad to see you having joy in your season of grief. They really can exist at the same time. Sending love and light."

Before Ojeh's death at age 45 in May 2025, Jones took time away from the Today show to spend time with her husband and their three children. She returned to Studio 1A in September 2025, prior to taking on her role as Jenna Bush Hager's fourth hour co-host in January, calling the loss of her husband a "beautiful nightmare."

"We don't move on, but we move forward with our loved ones," she said at the time. "I hope that just by me being on the set and me returning to work, it's like, ‘OK, if I can do it, so can you, right?'"
