Get Out of the Run Weekend at Northwest Trek

Discover nature, learn about the rut, or breeding, habits of hooved animals such as deer, sheep, elk and moose, and maybe even try out the zip line course this weekend at the Get Out of the Rut Weekend at Northwest Trek. Hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, 11610 Trek Drive E., Eatonville. Admission is $19.75 for adults, $18.75 seniors, $12.25 kids 5-12 years old, $9.25 kids ages 3-4 years old and free to kids 2 and younger, Pierce County residents receive a discounted rate. Free Labor Day Hometown Fest at Bass Pro Shop in Tacoma

Take the family out to Bass Pro Shop, 7905 S. Hosmer, Tacoma, and join in the free fun of its Labor Day Hometown Festival. There will be casting buckets for aspiring anglers, ring toss, duck pond, arts and crafts, face painting and food samples plus prizes for the kids, all free to the public. It is noon-5 p.m. Sunday.

Tour Historic Fort Steilacoom in Lakewood

Learn all about local history at the Historic Fort Steilacoom. Tour the buildings, some of the oldest still standing in Washington, of this historic site and learn of the major restoration efforts made there since the 1970s. The fort is open 1 -4 p.m. on the grounds of Western State Hospital, Historic Fort Steilacoom, 9601 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood. Free, donations accepted.
