Author Jamie Ford comes to the Tacoma Public Library

Join author Jamie Ford as he talks about his book, “The Songs of Willow Frost,” at the Tacoma Public Library, 1102 Tacoma Ave. S. He will share the historical research behind the book and the H.C. Weaver Studios and there will be a book signing. It’s at 7 p.m. Thursday and is free to the public. For more information call 253-292-2001.

Fall Poetry Series in Gig Harbor features Leonard Neufeldt

As part of the Fall Poetry Series, the Gig Harbor Library, 4424 Point Fosdick Drive NW, prize-winning poet and author Leonard Neufeldt will be the featured guest. He has been the editor or co-editor of 17 books and shares his experiences of being raised in the Dutch-Russian Mennonite hamlet of Yarrow, B.C. The 7:30 p.m. talk is free. Want to learn more about roses, or find out if growing roses is for you, come to the monthly meeting of the Tacoma Rose Society. The group meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3315 S. 19th St., Tacoma, and it’s free. For details, go to tacomarosesociety.org,

What’s happening at the Washington State Fair

Country stars Crystal Gayle and Lee Greenwood are performing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Grand Stand. Tickets are $28-$45 and include fair admission.

 

Gate hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $12.50 adults, $9 ages 6-18 and seniors 62 and older, free for kids 5 and younger. Parking in the fair lots is $10 Mondays-Fridays and $15 Saturdays and Sundays.

Pierce Transit’s Fair Express service begins daily at 9:15 a.m. with the last trip leaving the fair at 11:30 p.m. Service is provided from the Tacoma Mall, Lakewood Towne Center and South Hill Mall; parking is free at these sites.

Fares are $2 one way for adults, $0.75 for seniors and disabled and youth 18 and younger. Up to four children, ages 13 and younger, may ride free when accompanied by a fare-paying customer.

 

Sound Transit Express Route 578 also runs between Seattle and Puyallup daily.
