“A Short-Term Solution to a Long-Term Problem” one-man play at UPS

As part of the Tacoma Art Museum’s “Art AIDS America” exhibit, the solo play “A Short-Term Solution to a Long-Term Problem” will be performed by writer David Schmader. It is a comedy about unfunny things and the dramatic life upheaval that drove Schmader to spend a decade living every day like it’s your last. Funded by the Catherine Gould Chism Fund for the Humanities and the Arts, the 7 p.m. performance is Wednesday at Schneebeck Concert Hall at University of Puget Sound. Tickets are $5, and complimentary for faculty, staff and students. For more information, call 253-879-3100.

Book discussion and signing with author Jerry Ramsey

Challenging the politically correct history of early Puget Sound, Jerry V. Ramsey’s novel “Stealing Puget Sound 1832-1869” exposes the little known political tension between the first British settlers and the Americans who crossed the Oregon Trail fifteen years later. Meet the author as he shares from the book and will sign copies at 7 p.m. Wednesday. He will be at the Anna Lemon Wheelock Library, 3722 N. 26th St., Tacoma. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 253-617-7811.
