Lewis Black brings acerbic comedy to Tacoma’s Pantages Theater on Sunday
Grammy Award-winning comedian Lewis Black will bring his “The Rant is Due: Part Deux” to Tacoma on Sunday night.
COMEDY WARRIOR
The Washington, D.C., native spends about 200 nights a year on the road.
Called the king of the rant, Black brings his acerbic wit to topics such as current events, politics, social media and the general hypocrisy he sees in the world today
While studying drama and earning a degree at the University of North Carolina, Black did his first standup routine at Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill. He opted to leave behind the theater and pursue a career in comedy in the late 1980s.
Since then, the 67-year-old Black has established himself as a star on the standup circuit, was a regular on “The Daily Show,” has been in movies and voiced Anger in Pixar’s “Inside Out,” and has been a regular on late-night television.
HIS TROPHY SHELF
In 2001, Black won the American Comedy Award for Funniest Male Standup Comic.
Black has been nominated for five Grammy Awards, winning twice. In 2007, he won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album for “The Carnegie Hall Performance” and in 2011 for “Stark Raving Black.”
His HBO special, “Red, White and Screwed,” was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2007. He won a Sports Emmy for his work on “Inside the NFL.”

In addition to his standup comedy, Black also has written more than 40 plays. The play “One Slight Hitch” was produced at the ACT Theater in Seattle in 2012.
He also has written three books, all of which spent time on The New York Times best-seller list.

“It gave me a sense of the nuances of anger, but I’ve spent a lot of time doing anger. I mean, my mother was angry. My grandfather was angry. I’ve been around anger all my life.” — Lewis Black, to the Associated Press on his role in “Inside Out.”
