Free screening of Professor Michael Honey followed by discussion

Come out for the free screening of “Love & Solidarity: Reverend James Lawson and Nonviolence in the Search for Labor Rights,” followed by a discussion with producer and writer, Michael Honey. professor at the University of Washington Tacoma. The history of nonviolent social movements, particuarly the intersection of the African American freedom struggle and labor rights is Honey’s specialty. It is being shown at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Rausch Auditorium, University of Puget Sound, 1500 N. Warner St., Tacoma and is free to the public.

Author Art Chantry talks about design and new book

Meet author Art Chantry when he comes to the Tacoma Public Library, 1102 Tacoma Ave. S. to talk about his book “Art Chantry Speaks: A Heretic’s History of 20th Century Graphic Design.” Chantry’s design clients have included Seattle institutions like the Bathhouse, New City, Empty Space, Organic and Repertory Theatres and the Center on Contemporary Art and he has created hundreds of logos and type treatments using ‘low-tech’ design. His book plays homage to expired technology and his use of Xerox machines, X-Acto blade cuts and more. The free community event and book signing is at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Free class on food, planning and recipes at Lakewood Library

Join Beverly Pogue, “The Homemaker’s Coach,” as she shares her concept, “The Two-Week/Three-Month Pantry” at a free presentation at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Come out to the Lakewood Library, 6300 Wildaire Road SW, Lakewood. For information call 253-548-3302.

What’s happening at the Washington State Fair

Pop and R&B sensation Iggy Azalea will be performing in the concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Grand Stand. Tickets are $55-$85 and include fair admission.

Gate hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $12.50 adults, $9 ages 6-18 and seniors 62 and older, free for kids 5 and younger. Parking in the fair lots is $10 Mondays-Fridays and $15 Saturdays and Sundays.

Transit options include: Pierce Transit’s Fair Express service begins daily at 9:15 a.m. with the last trip leaving the fair at 11:30 p.m. Service is provided from the Tacoma Mall, Lakewood Towne Center and South Hill Mall; parking is free at these sites.

Fares are $2 one way for adults, $0.75 for seniors and disabled and youth 18 and younger. Up to four children, ages 13 and younger, may ride free when accompanied by a fare-paying customer.
