It’s no otter than anything else could do

Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium will hold Sensational Sea Otters on Sunday. Learn about the role sea otters play in the near-shore ecosystem, about their behavior, natural history and conservation issues. Activities will run from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., including special treats for the otters at 10:30 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. There also will be activities in the Marine Discovery Center and tours of the marine mammal food prep area. Meet Mother Nature by volunteering at a park

National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer effort to aid the nation’s public lands. It will take place Saturday, with several events in the South Sound. To find a volunteer opportunities, go to publiclandsday.org. To help celebrate the day, Washington State Parks and federal agencies including the National Park Service. U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are offering free admission Saturday.

Friday (Sept. 25)

Have a good laugh with Sinbad

Known for his family-friendly comedy, Sinbad has been making crowds laugh for more than 20 years with his standup comedy, on TV shows “A Different World” and “The Sinbad Show,” and in films such as “Necessary Roughness” and “Jingle All the Way.” He will be performing at 8:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 25) at the Emerald Queen Casino, 2024 E. 29th St., Tacoma. Immerse yourself in Italian culture

It’s going to be everything Italian at this year’s Festa Italiana at Seattle Center this weekend. Highlights include celebrity chef, Nick Stellino, cooking demonstrations, Sicilian puppetry by the Carter Family Marionettes and a grape stomping competition. There will be food, live music, an international art show and Italian car show. The free community event is 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information go to festaseattle.com.

Head to the Beach for one legendary band

Together since 1961, The Beach Boys, bring that Southern California feel with its original surf sound to the stage. Over the years the band’s sound has transcended the years with songs including “Good Vibrations” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.” See them live in a 7 p.m. concert Sunday at the Snoqualmie Casino, 37500 SE North Bend Way, Snoqualmie. Tickets are $40-$90, and are available online at snocasino.com.

You can count on a good show

After gaining popularity with the release of its debut album, “August and Everything After,” Counting Crows has gone on to sell more than 20 million albums worldwide and received an Academy Award nomination for its song, “Accidentally in Love.” It’s “Somewhere Under Wonderland Tour” is coming to WaMu Theater, 1000 Occidental Ave. S., Seattle for a 7 p.m. concert Saturday. Joining them will be Citizen Cope and Hollis Brown. Tickets are $52-$72, and are available through Ticketmaster.

Wednesday

Experience the ‘Spirit of India’

Get an authentic taste of the richness, pageantry and excitement of Indian music when the Bollywood Masala Orchestra and the Dancers of India come to Benaroya Hall, 200 University St., Seattle. The show, “Spirit of India,” brings to fruition the vision of Rahis Bharti to present to the world Indian live music and dance. The show is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with tickets $35-$70 available online at seattlesymphony.org.
