Old-fashioned Apple Squeeze in Steilacoom
Take a step back in time to the tradition of the Apple Squeeze when the Steilacoom Historical Museum hosts its annual community event. In its 42nd year, the festival features an old-fashioned hand-operated apple presses, pony rides, children’s activities and live music by Spot the Dog, Steve and Kristi Nebel, and Barleywine Revue. Taking over Lafayette Street in downtown Steilacoom, it is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 253-581-4133.
Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church offers blessing of the animals
Join in the Blessing of the Animals and Feast of St. Francis at Saint Andrew's Espicopal Church, 7410 S. 12th St., Tacoma. The church invites the community to bring their pets to a service celebrating "all creatures great and small" at 8 and10 a.m. Sunday. Seattle Choral Arts concert at Annie Wright in Tacoma
Seattle’s Choral Arts brings their season-opening concert to Tacoma, including David Lang’s Pulitzer Prize-winning oratorio “The Little Match Girl Passion.” A minimalist, yet lush retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen tale, “Passion” explores the concept of transformation through retelling of suffering, and is paired with works by Ildebrando Pizzetti and Jake Runestad. 4 p.m. Sunday. $25 general, $23 senior and military, $10 student. Shelton OysterFest brings food, wine, brews and fun together
OysterFest, hosted by the Shelton Skookum Rotary Club Foundation, brings together oysters, wines, microbrews and music for a weekend of fun. The event is home to the West Coast Oyster Shucking Championships and features cook-offs, exhibits and a food pavilion with nearly 100 items on the menu. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
