Orchid show and sale at Swanson’s Nursery in Seattle

If you love or have admired orchids and want to learn more about the exotic flower then come out for the final day of the Northwest Orchid Society Show and Sale at Swanson’s Nursery, 9701 15th Ave. NW, Seattle. There will be talks on such subjects as re-potting and favorite beginner’s orchids. Five regional orchid vendors from Washington and Idaho who will be selling orchids not found in common outlets and orchid hobbyists will be on hand to answer questions. Photographers are welcome. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday and admission is free. For more information go to nwos.org.

Puyallup Veterans Day program at Pioneer Park Pavilion

Honor our veteran’s at the annual Puyallup Veterans Day Program starting at 1 p.m. Sunday. Congressman Denny Heck is the guest speaker and the South Sound Symphonic Band will play patriotic and orchestral music. The free event is at Pioneer Park Pavilion, 330 S. Meridian, Puyallup.

Come a little early to see the Military Memorabilia Exhibit where items from World Wars I and II, Vietnam and selected women’s military uniforms will be on display. Some of the items of one-of-kind and date back to 1917. It will be open to the public at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Veterans Day banquet hosted by Chapel Hill Church in Gig Harbor

Join local veterans and active duty military members in a Veterans Day Banquet hosted by Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, 7700 Skansie Ave., Gig Harbor. Enjoy a catered meal and guest speaker from Puget Sound Honor Flight organization. There will be music by the Red, White and Blues Band as well. Tickets for the 6 p.m. dinner are $12, active duty military members are free. For more information call 253-265-3792.

Darren Motamedy performs at Jazz Live as Marine View

As part of the Jazz Live at Marine View concert series, saxophonist Darren Motamedy will be performing in a 5 p.m. concert Sunday. Originally from the Northwest, he has been based in Las Vegas and continues to produce smooth contemporary jazz with a recent release “All About Love.” It’s being held at Marine View Presbyterian Church, 8469 Eastside Drive NE, Tacoma, and is free to the public.
