The Model Train Festival at the Washington State History Museum, 1911 Pacific Ave., Tacoma, opens Monday and will continue through New Year's Day. Make it a family event. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. General admission is $12 for adults; $8 for seniors, students and military with valid ID; free for children ages 5 and younger and members. Make Northwest Trek Wildlife Park a winter break destination for the family. Kids get in free (up to four children ages 12 and younger) with a paying adult. Each visit includes a heated, 50-minute tram tour of the Free Roaming Area, where visitors can spot the new baby moose, deer, elk, sheep and more. Hours are 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. daily from Saturday through Dec. 31. Go to nwtrek.org for more information.
