TNT Book Club sets date to discuss ‘The Vanishing Half.’ Also, vote for August’s selection

We are approaching the end of the month which means it is time to announce when we will be having our discussion for the TNT Book Club.

We are doing the discussion for “The Vanishing Half” on Friday, July 31 at noon.

Please email chase.hutchinson@thenewstribune.com if you would like to join the virtual discussion, and you will be sent all the information to do so. It is first come, first served so make sure you email as soon as you can.

That gives you less than two weeks to finish the book, so, if you haven’t started, now is the time to do so.

As for next month, the poll is now open for what we will read for August. You have until Wednesday, July 22 at noon to vote. The choices are:

“The Only Good Indians” by Stephen Graham. It follows four American Indian men after a disturbing event from their youth puts them in a desperate struggle for their lives. Tracked by an entity bent on revenge, these childhood friends are helpless as the culture and traditions they left behind catch up to them in a violent, vengeful way.

“Blacktop Wasteland” by S. A. Cosby. It tells the story of Beauregard “Bug” Montage, a humble mechanic with a troubled past. As his carefully built new life begins to crumble, he finds himself drawn inexorably back into a world of blood and bullets. Haunted by who he used to be and the father who disappeared when he needed him most, Bug must find a way to navigate this blacktop wasteland ... or die trying.

“Axiom’s End: A Novel” by Lindsay Ellis. It takes place in fall 2007 in the aftermath of a well-timed leak which reveals that the U.S. government might have engaged in first contact. Cora Sabino finds herself caught in the fallout and sets out to gather as much information as she can. She soon finds that the best way for her to uncover the truth is not as a whistleblower, but as an intermediary between humanity and something ... alien.

As always, you can join the Facebook group here to talk about the books we are reading and get updates direct to you.
