TNT Book Club to read ‘Lovecraft Country’ for September

The votes are in, and the September selection for the TNT Book Club is “Lovecraft County” by Matt Ruff. It is the source material for the new HBO series currently airing.

Set in Chicago in 1954, it follows 22-year-old Army veteran Atticus Turner as he embarks on a road trip to New England to find his missing father. He is accompanied by his uncle George — publisher ofThe Safe Negro Travel Guide” — and his childhood friend, Letitia.

On their journey to the manor of Samuel Braithwhite — heir to the estate that owned one of Atticus’ ancestors —they encounter both the mundane terrors of white America and malevolent spirits that seem straight out of the weird tales George devours.
