SIS Productions does ‘Paper Angels’
Seattle director David Hsieh comes to Dukesbay Theater with SIS Productions to offer “Paper Angels,” a drama about would-be immigrants from China in 1915 held at the Angel Island immigration center outside San Francisco. 8 p.m. Fridays, 4 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays through Aug. 16. $16 general and $12 student, senior and actor. Crafts, puppets at Fort Nisqually
Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the past at Fort Nisqually’s annual Brigade Encampment this weekend. More than 100 re-enactors recreate the visit of fur traders to the historic fort circa 1855, including the arrival (noon each day), obstacle course, crafts, and Punch and Judy puppet shows. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. $5-$9, free ages 4 and younger. Verdi’s ‘Nabucco’ at Seattle Opera
It’s drama on an epic scale. Nebuchadnezzar, the mad king of Babylon, declares himself God while one daughter seeks equal power and another schemes to liberate the oppressed Jews. With a Biblically-based libretto and a score that shot Verdi to operatic fame (plus Gordon Hawkins in the title role), “Nabucco” is opera as everyone imagines it. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, Aug. 14-15, 19, 22; 2 p.m. Sunday. Bainbridge Island Art Studio Tour
Many Seattle artists have their studios in the forested tranquility of Bainbridge Island, and the annual art studio tour makes a great excuse to enjoy the island yourself for a day.
