Gig Harbor art studio tour

This weekend marks the 23rd Greater Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour, a self-driven tour of 26 of the peninsula’s artists and a chance to see them work and buy their art. This year the tour consolidates artists into 15 locations, reducing driving. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday (Sept. 18)-Sunday. Free. Various locations: See gigharboropenstudiotour.org for a map.

‘Oliver’ at Tacoma Musical Playhouse

Tacoma Musical Playhouse opens the season with the beloved Dickens-based musical “Oliver!,” starring Liam Loughridge as the wide-eyed orphan Oliver Twist, Helene Minassian as the Artful Dodger who introduces him to a life of crime, and Nancy Hebert-Bach as the heroine Nancy, and favorite songs like “Consider Yourself” and “You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket.” 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Thursdays in October and Sundays, through Oct. 11. $31 adults; $29 senior, student and military; $22 ages 12 and younger. 7116 Sixth Ave., Tacoma. 253-565-6867, tmp.org.

‘Boeing, Boeing’ at Tacoma Little Theatre

Tacoma Little Theatre opens its first show of the season this week: the 2008 Tony-winning comedy “Boeing, Boeing” about a swinging 1960s bachelor with three stewardess girlfriends and a bit of a mix-up in timing. 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 4. Federal Way painter Marshall Johnson has a mini-retrospective of his dreamy, reflection-filled oil landscapes of Tacoma, Seattle, Puget Sound and more at American Art Co., with a reception Saturday that includes the launch of his new coffee table book, “120 Paintings.” Reception 2-4 p.m. Saturday, show open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday through Oct. 31.
